Wolf Schall is originally from Neuffen, Germany on the edge of the Swabian Alb where he was a Phys-Ed and Shop high school teacher.
He first came to the Yukon in 1982 when he built a log cabin in the wilderness with his brother and friends. From then on - until 1992 - Wolf visited Canada regularly to explore the unspoiled nature by canoe. He then immigrated with his wife Jaana in 1993 and started the company WOLF ADVENTURE TOURS. Initially, they offered only guided canoe tours on the Big Salmon River, but it was not long before canoe rentals, shuttles and tours on other rivers became an option.
Wolf enjoys spending his free time in the sky as he is an avid paraglider. In strong winds, Wolf and his wife Jaana are often seen kite skiing on Marsh Lake in the winter time. They live together with their daughter Vera on this 32-kilometer-long lake east of Whitehorse.
Jaana Schall is Finnish, coming from the small town of Sodankylä in the Finnish Lapland. From 1987 to 1992 she lived in Germany before immigrating to Canada with her husband. Every summer she drives thousands of kilometers by van on the dusty roads of the Yukon, bringing canoeists to the put-in points of their chosen rivers.
In her spare time, she runs on local forest trails and has completed the Victoria Marathon in British Columbia. She also likes to road bike and mountain bike. In winter, she can often be found on the Marsh Lake cross-country ski trails or snow boarding at the Mt. Sima ski hill in Whitehorse.
